N.C. Center for Health and Wellness at UNC Asheville Awarded Three-Year $1.2 Million Grant

The North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness (NCCHW) at UNC Asheville has received a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living to extend its evidence-based falls prevention programs partnership and network across the state. The integrated Networks Grant follows a 2017 award. of $600,000 to NCCHW which expanded access and utilization of the programs across 18 counties in Western North Carolina. Amy Joy Lanou Appointed to Lead N.C. Center for Health & Wellness at UNC Asheville

Communicating Resiliency Video Series

Check out Communicating Resiliency, our new short video series (2-3 min each). The goal of this project is to create a targeted public health communications campaign to raise awareness about trauma—what it is, its impacts, and how to build resilience—in Buncombe County and across Western North Carolina.

If you enjoy the messages, please share and help us build a more #resilientWNC.

Many thanks to our interns, partners and community members who contributed their time, guidance, expertise and passion to this project.

Mothering Asheville

The NCCHW Culture of Results Initiative is currently working with Mothering Asheville to strengthen our ability to implement strategies to reduce infant mortality among Black women in Buncombe County. Currently, we are training SistasCaring4Sistas, the Black doulas, to help them evaluate their impact as they work in low income housing areas to provide care to pregnant mothers and babies.

NCCHW Receives 2018 Walk with Ease Mini Grant

The Walk With Ease group walking program encourages people with arthritis to start walking and stay motivated to keep active. Educational materials and tools supplement the group classes, and are used for the self-directed version of the program. The North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness recieved a 2018 mini grant from Osteoarthritis Action Alliance so that we can continue to provide this program for citizens in our community.

NCCHW at UNCA Receives Major Grant to Combat Arthritis

The North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness at UNC Asheville (NCCHW) has received a major grant from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to initiate and support arthritis awareness and programs for people with arthritis in communities across the state. The grant will provide $250,000-500,000 annually for five years with a goal of reaching more than 174,000 North Carolinians.

NCCHW Selected to be Part of the 2017 National Council on Aging Network Development Learning Collaborative

The North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness at UNC Asheville (NCCHW) has been selected as one of 10 organizations nationally to participate in the year-long Network Development Learning Collaborative supported by the National Council on Aging (NCOA). Participation in the learning collaborative will support NCCHW’s efforts to serve as a center of evidence-based healthy-aging programming and form a network hub of local organizations and health care providers.

Falls Prevention Grant

The North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness (NCCHW) at UNC Asheville received a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to expand access to and utilization of evidence-based falls prevention programs across 18 counties in Western North Carolina.
