Partnerships are at the core of the work of the N.C. Center for Health & Wellness
Medical costs related to eight common health risks among North Carolina adults are projected to reach $94 billion a year by 2015. It is imperative to improve the health of our citizens. The N.C. Center for Health & Wellness has developed a powerful prevention infrastructure in North Carolina and works to connect health and wellness providers across the state. The NCCHW helps to increase the efficiencies, reach and success of health and wellness activities, as well as provide program evaluation and verification tools, training and policy guidance.
The North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness has served as a critical link between the YMCA of WNC, Pioneering Healthier Communities and other community organizations. David Gardner and his team advocate for policy and environment change in the Asheville area, such as the city’s Complete Streets Policy and the Buncombe County Greenways and Trails Master Plan. Showing their commitment to promoting policies that support healthy lifestyles, the NCCHW and other PHC partner organizations are planning the Weight of the Nation film screening in January 2013, to be held on the UNC Asheville's campus. Dr. Gardner is communicative, supportive of the Y, and cares deeply about the health and well-being of all North Carolinians. Kristen Weaver, Former Director of Wellness Advancement for YMCA of WNC
