Stradley tapped to serve on Girls on the Run of WNC Board of Directors
July 19, 2012
Laurie Stradley from the N.C. Center for Health and Wellness (NCCHW) has been called to serve on the Board of Directors for Girls on Run (GOTR) of WNC. GOTR is a character-development program with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Stradley’s role at the NCCHW is director of state and community collaborations, and she will use her background in coalition building and community collaboration to support the work of GOTR. Stradley said of her new appointment, “Girls on the Run is a life-changing program for the young women who experience it. I'm grateful that the Board for the Western N.C. Chapter asked me to join because it means I'll have a direct impact on my daughter and other girls who will grow up here and have the chance to participate. What more could a Mom want for her daughters?”
The N.C. Center for Health and Wellness has staff members serving 20 leadership roles throughout North Carolina. They use their leadership positions to impact action and success in their three areas of focus: worksite wellness, healthy aging, and healthy weight for children, youth and young adults.
Amy Renigar, GOTR’s executive director said of the appointment, "Girls on the Run of WNC is proud to welcome Laurie Stradley to our Board of Directors. Laurie brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in non-profit management and health promotion, as well as a long-standing commitment to the mission of Girls on the Run. She served as a Board Vice President and President of Girls on the Run of the Triangle from 2008 to 2010. We are thrilled to have Laurie here in Western North Carolina to assist with strategic planning, development, and special events, such as the Fall 2012 GOTR 5K being held at UNC Asheville on December 8. Her leadership will help to empower hundreds of girls in the 14 counties we serve."
